The Safari Series & Lolldaiga Hills: Laikipia's Best Kept Secret

Amongst safari experts, Laikipia is often listed as a firm favourite within Kenya, offering exceptional wildlife, vast and unspoilt landscapes and a vibrant mix of cultures. And whilst many are familiar with the likes of Lewa, Ol Pejeta and Borana, not enough know the gem that is the Lolldaiga Hills. We're all for keeping secrets, but this one is too good to keep to ourselves - after many years of enjoying safari trips, the Kapara team firmly believe it's got the perfect mix of Laikipia magic!

Sitting between Ol Jogi and Borana conservancies, Lolldaiga Conservancy enjoys stunning views of Mount Kenya to the south, and even better, it's easily accessible from Nanyuki (just 20 mins from the airstrip to the gate). Known by insiders as one of Kenya's most beautiful spots, there are four different ecosystems to discover here - riverine woodland, arid northern plains, beautiful cedar forest and open savannah plains.

Home to a diverse array of wildlife species, this includes high populations of lions and leopards, as well as elephants, striped hyenas, bat-eared foxes and the Northern Kenya species including reticulated giraffes, Beisa oryx and gerenuk. And with more than 400 bird species to discover, there is rarely a moment where you can be without a pair of binoculars!

Our partner, The Safari Series, has a small, authentic safari camp located in the south of the conservancy, and is the only tented camp here. This means you have tens of thousands of acres to explore with no other safari vehicles in sight, stopping on hilltops to scan for wildlife sightings or look for tracks in the road, and seeing what Mother Nature has in store to show you that day.

There are so many activities to enjoy here, beyond morning, afternoon and night game-drives and bush meals - take your pick from walking safaris (which can be anything from a gentle stroll learning about medicinal plant use to a multi-kilometre hike), visiting ancient rock art in caves, playing safari guide yourself by driving one of the restored Series Land Rovers, horse-riding, hilltop sunrises, picnics, ethnobotany classes and a wide array of kids activities for young safari-goers. This is a place that invites you to truly explore, slow down, engage all your senses and enjoy the sense of adventure.

Moon's Camp is owner-run and wonderfully family-friendly. The team here places the emphasis on the luxuries of space, time and freedom, rather than fancy frills within the camp. And they're certainly on to something, as guests return year after year to disconnect from their busy lifestyles in this epic landscape, making new memories with loved ones.
